goLite P- Light therapy-perfect for those with sleep disorde

Posted: March 10th, 2011 | Author: admin | Filed under: infrared light therapy | Tags: , , , , , , , , , | No Comments »

The spectrum of light goes from ultraviolet (UV) to violet to indigo to blue. By the time you get to blue, it is very safe since the color you see is what your eyes have adapted to over time. UV and near UV light—and infra-red on the other end of the spectrum—cannot be seen and, therefore, can cause great damage to the eye. Blue light surpasses other colors when it comes to resetting the body’s internal clock and restoring sleep-wake cycles—particularly for those whose circadian rhythms are thrown off by the shorter days and longer nights of fall and winter. When participants in a Harvard University study were exposed to blue and green light, it was found that blue light shifted the body’s circadian rhythm twice as much as the green. Clearly, blue light has a profound effect on the body’s internal clock. For some people, the hormones that regulate mood and sleep are thrown off balance. Blue light therapy can also help the body get back on track during the fall and winter months. The goLite P2™ from Apollo Health was developed after 10 years of research with various universities and the National Institutes of Health. Its patent-pending BlueWave® technology provides 100% of effective blue light—more than any other light therapy. And the goLite P2™ is used by NASA to regulate the sleep cycles of its astronauts and shuttle crews. Before starting any light therapy, have your eyes examined by an ophthalmologist—especially if you have eye conditions, eye damage, eye surgery

Depression during pregnancy?

Posted: September 19th, 2010 | Author: admin | Filed under: light therapy for depression | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , | 7 Comments »

I am 24 weeks pregnant and for a month now I have been suffering from horrible depression. Everything bad that could happen, has happened. I have never handled stress well and was on medication before I was pregnant. My doctor and I decided to stop taking it during pregnancy. I went to him last week and asked to be put back on Lexapro and he said no.
I have only gained 2 pounds (I am in my 6th month) and my anxiety and fear is getting out of hand. I can’t sleep and have trouble wanting to eat. Some days all I can do is sleep. What can I do. I am willing to try support groups, light therapy. But apparently medication is out of the question for me. On top of all of this, the nurse made me feel worst. She told me I should be happy just thinking about the baby. I am, but my mind can’t get out of this funk.
Any non-medication suggestions would help!!!

Would shining a bright blue or green LED light into your eyes for light therapy for 20 minutes be dangerous?

Posted: July 7th, 2010 | Author: admin | Filed under: light therapy for depression | Tags: , , , , , , , | 1 Comment »

for your eyes? This question deals with blue or green LED lights especially, and they are anywhere from an inch to 12 inches away from the eyes. I’m talking about a little LED light like this in particular – http://www.light-reviews.com/inova_microlight/

Would this be dangerous, could this cause permanent eye damage? I realize there is a blue light hazard, but does the same also apply to green? Light therapy seems to be beneficial for people with depression or sleep disorders, and has helped me. But I need something more portable, so thought I’d ask. What would be a safe level of lux for light therapy up close, especially about an inch from the eyes?

Am I the only person who can't get relief from bipolar disorder?

Posted: May 22nd, 2010 | Author: admin | Filed under: light relief therapy | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , | 3 Comments »

I am so frustrated! I have tried about 25 medications, and even went thru ECT this past summer, and nothing helps! I have been trying to get help for my bipolar since 1994. I just had a fit today and broke some stuff. Counseling doesn’t help much either. ECT was the last thing left to try, and it was a horrible experience – I had a weird reaction just like I do to all the meds. They apparently had to hold me down and inject me with Haldol because I was trying to run away when I woke up. I went thru 7 horrid treatments and it didn’t help a bit.(FYI there is absolutely no question it’s bipolar, I do lots of self-help things, including eating right, stable sleep schedule, light therapy, dark therapy, exercising, meditation, social support, art, music, every damn thing. I am even happily married & like where I live).

What in the hell? Am I the only one? I can’t make it without meds – my symptoms are really severe more than half the time (suicidal) and it has been this way for years. My psychiatrist wants me to get a hysterectomy, because it MIGHT help. Just like she told me the past 15 drugs and ECT might help. Oh, wait, the ECT was supposed to be an almost sure-fire thing. My mom & her mom’s menopause symptoms never went away, so I can’t see how that would help either.

Anyway, I’m venting, but I am also wondering if anyone else has gone thru this – just nothing worked. And how do you not blow your brains out when nothing works. I don’t even believe in God anymore – lost that 2 years ago in the middle of the last 3 year mixed moods bout.

Do you believe in Astral projection (astral travel)?

Posted: April 14th, 2010 | Author: admin | Filed under: bright light therapy | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , | 9 Comments »

I have been doing alot of research on Astral Travel. I even tried, but it was always unsuccesful. For those who doesn’t know what is Astral Travel, Please take a look first.

Astral travel has been practised throughout history – and there have been thousands of documented scientific experiements confirming that astral travel is real.
People seek therapy because they ‘wake up paralyzed and rigid’ (sleep paralysis, a close component of astral travel) ‘Wake up and see strange beings around them’ (entities found in the astral plane) ‘Find themselves floating or vibrating violently, or engulfed in a bright light’ (sensations felt as the astral body leaves the physical body) Some people have even gone so far as to say their astral experiences are alien encounters.

I am also interested to know if its true. If u have any encounters, OR EVEN YOU HAD TRIED, please tell me more about it. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/astral_travel) check if u dont believe

Should I bother with a sleep study when I have severe DSPS?

Posted: April 3rd, 2010 | Author: admin | Filed under: bright light therapy | Tags: , , , , , , , , , , , , , , | 2 Comments »

Okay so I’ve had dsps for about 15 years now and the older I get the worse it gets. Most people with it say they can’t fall asleep until 2-3am but for me It’s around 9am to 12pm, then I sleep like a log until around 10pm. Needless to say, It’s impossible to hold down a job or even have a social life. It’s driving me bonkers!! It’s an everyday thing and I workout everyday, don’t drink caffeine, I have fairly healthy eating habits, pills don’t work, NyQuil don’t work, nothing freaking works. I’ve tried everything except having a sleep study done. Should I even bother with one as I think they will most likely just suggest bright light therapy or something? If I can even fall asleep during the study that is, I’ve heard that you have to get ready for bed in the evening for these things, but that will be useless because I’ll just lay there until 7am or whenever they’re supposed to wake you up. I don’t have insurance either so before I dish out 00 do you really think it’s worth it with my situation? All responses are greatly appreciated and I will choose a best answer, even if there’s only one.

Thank you.
I’ve tried tons and tons of cannabis over the years and while it’s quite nice, It doesn’t help me sleep. :\ Neither does alcohol. I do tons of yard work for people every summer even though it’s sooo hard because of my condition and I’m in the sun for a long time, that hasn’t helped at all..ever, so I’m thinking bright light therapy will be useless.

Nonetheless I thank you for the response.
