What is the Independent and Dependent Variable for this problem, also state the null hypothesis?

A research study was done on Seasonal depression and the effectiveness of Light Therapy Lamps in men vs. women over a time period of 6 weeks. The men and women were given a survey on depression at the beginning of the treatment, and the same men and women were given the the exact same survey at the end of the treatment. The research stated that at the end of treatment women were reporting less depressive symptoms than men.

Also if possible state the null hypothesis, and the research hypothesis.

How can I get Medicare/Medicaid to pay for a prescribed Light therapy Lightbox for S.A.D?

I started receiving disability benefits from SSDI in January 2009 so right now I have medicaid still but I will be switched to medicare in Jan 2010 so I’m a little confused about my coverage right now. My new Psychiatrist just suggested that I try a light therapy lamp for my seasonal depression but they are really expensive and I can’t just go buy one unless I can get it covered. The shrink says she will sign whatever I need to get it but she doesn’t know the process so I have to figure it out myself which is really hard for me since I tend to get panic attacks when I try to deal with confusing paperwork and agencies. I know someone who got one covered by the VA Hospital but thats very different from what I have. I really have no clue who to even ask about this and I just keep getting more depressed because the sun in Seattle has been hiding for weeks. Anyone have any ideas?

Light therapy for depression?

Has anyone ever used light therapy for depression? Some say it won’t work unless it is seasonal depression, but it looks like the same factors in your brain would be involved either way. I know that there’s specific (expensive) light boxes I can buy, but I’m wondering if going to a tanning bed every 2-3 days might help. I’ve read that tanning beds are not recommended for this, but the medical field would never promote tanning beds anyway because it isn’t good for your skin.
I was just wondering if anyone had any personal experience with either a light box or using a tanning bed for therapy?

Anyone have seasonal depression? Some questions… thanks!?

I have seasonal depression…. well it’s not diagnosed yet, but I am diagnosed (or w/e you wanna call it) w/clinical depression. However, as of a few weeks ago it suddenly got REALLY worse and nothing in my life has really changed. All summer long I was fine. I started seeing the therapist I am seeing now in January because I was at a real bad low. Then I got better as the summer came and so on. So yeah I’ve actually noticed it’s been like this for years in a row, so it must be seasonal. Anyway… I’m going back to the therapist in a few weeks, but until then, I was just wondering what you do to help get your mood up (assumin you have seasonal depression too and are reading this…) Do you do the bright light therapy (or w/e its called)? Does it work? Did the light machine thing cost alot? Any help would be great. I’d def going to the therapist sooner, but I’m away at school and can’t get home before my next appt.
