Pittsburgh Channel 4 Action News’ Michelle Wright reported that one in four people experience some form of mental illness — even if it’s something temporary like depression — in any given year. Channel 4 Action News (Pittsburgh) took the opportunity to discuss the topic of mental health that is talked about by few but impacts many — possibly you, your family member, your co-worker or your neighbor. Full Spectrum Solutions, which specializes in light therapy, told Wright that it’s a growing business and it’s making a big difference. “Light therapy is becoming more and more recognized by the medical industry as a treatment for SAD — so much so that some insurance companies are beginning to reimburse people who are prescribed light therapy,” a Full Spectrum Solutions representative said. The brightness of the light is adjustable, and there are no harmful UV rays. SAD sufferers use it on high for 30 minutes a day.
Color Light Therapy is only one of the many holistic approaches that Peace Valley Holistic Center uses to help Special Needs Children. Peace Valley Holistic Center is a Nonprofit organization. With over 40 years of experience as a naturopathic physician/teacher/researcher, Dr. Davis has seen the number of autistic children dramatically increase in her practice. Dr. Davis has witnessed the effects of hopelessness and stress on parents, caregivers, and siblings. She saw how Holistic programs and alternative modalities renewed the hope in these families, because of the success and progress that was made. Simultaneously, while helping challenged children, Dr. Davis has aided the whole family by providing complimentary care to relieve stress and rejuvenate parents, siblings, friends, and caregivers. This success was the inspiration for the idea of creating the Peace Valley Holistic Center. The Peace Valley Holistic Center will be a prototype having three prongs: 1. A Holistic approach to helping Special Needs Children, with a focus on Autism/parental education; 2. Holistic techniques to aid the families/caregivers /friends with stress, coping, and transition; 3. A Holistic approach to advocacy, by educating the parents/caregivers, regarding education law, communication, and navigating through the administrative process. www.peacevalleyholisticcenter.com

My shrink realized that my depression seems to be much worse in the winter than at other times, and said I might benefit from light therapy. So my family ordered me one of the special lamps for my birthday and it just arrived today.
I was wondering if anybody had personal experience using light therapy to treat depression, seasonal affective disorder, or insomnia. Did you like it? Did it work for you?
