How do I know if I need Antidepressants?

Three months ago i had a health issue that obviously made me very anxious. I was put on 30 of cymbalta. Sometime in the middle of the treatment I found out that my health concern turned out to be nothing, so I stopped taking cymbalta after 23 days.
I knew better than that, but my situational anxiety alleviated it’s self so I thought I no longer neded the anti depression med. The next four days i went nutts. So I started taking it again. I started getting visual migraines which increased my anxiety so my dr. switched me to zoloft. On zoloft 50 mg then 100mg I felt awful like I was on chemo therapy or something. Dizziness blurred vision light headedness and crazy increase in anxiety and continued visual migraines. My dr wanted to try lexapro. I was growing rather frustrated with jumping from one to another cause all this started as a result of a situational depression that alleivated it’s self.
So I decided to taper off the zoloft for a month and see what would happen. No relief from the light headed feeling, blurred vision and headaches and visual migraines. None of these things I ever had before I started taking antidepressants. I’m now taking wellbutrin 150xl in the morning and have been taking it for about three weeks. Still get lightheaded and dizzy and have occasional blurred vision. I’m starting to think that I never needed these things from the start but now am afraid that I will never be able to get off of them. Does anyone have any suggestions or similar stories?

Positive thinking is so important in life. Have hope and pray about your life. Know that God can help you live a better life if you want Him to help you. You can have a personal relationship with God by saying the prayer below. God is our Creator, all-knowing, all-powerful, eternal, holy, love. God loves us and sent us His Son, Jesus Christ, so we can go to heaven if we know and follow Him. Forever means without end — time on and on without death. Forever is what happens after we die. Either we go to heaven and be with God forever, or we go to hell which is very bad and painful forever. The good people who are saved believers in Jesus Christ go to heaven. The bad people go to hell. We need to know and follow God in this world to get to heaven in the next world. We follow God by loving and obeying Him and loving others for Him. Jesus Christ, God’s Son, is our bridge to God. Jesus died on the cross to cancel our sins. We need to accept Jesus into our life as our Lord and Savior forever to receive God’s blessing and forgiveness plus go to heaven to be with God forever after we die. This is about being a born-again Christian. Faith in God is a gift from God. You can pray for faith in God. Just speak out and ask God for the faith to believe in Him and to follow Him. Some people find faith in God when they realize the beauty in the world is made by God. Evolution can’t explain the world’s natural beauty, for example, the parks in the world, animals, flowers, peacocks, sunsets, butterflies, rainbows, etc. After you have your faith on, you can pray a sinner’s prayer to be a born-again Christian. This prayer is very important and should be said with a sincere heart and faith in God. This is the prayer: "Dear God, I know that I am a sinner and that Jesus Christ is the sacrifice for our sins. I have done the following sins (state these out) and I pray to discontinue these sins. I pray to receive Jesus Christ into my life as my Lord and Savior forever. In Jesus’ name, amen." I’m Lutheran and I like the Baptist churches too. You could check out a Christian church and also see about their weekly Bible study group as a good way to learn about God’s will for your life. You can pray to God about your daily life and have a Christian church pray for you.
Hi AmberW,
I understand what you are going through. The jump from one anti-depressant to another is very exhausting. I myself had two years of trying to find the one that suited me without so many symptoms.
I have to say that after this two year period of trying I had had enough. I got through my depression by reading motivational books and learning how to use my mind correctly; in a more possitive way.
Anti-depressants are temporary and are only a way of helping you get through your day so as you can find a way out of your troubles by yourself. I personally think that doing without the drowzy, dizzy symptoms and learning how to think differently would benefit you more than the drugs themselves.
Hope this helps,
Adrian
Lifestyle changes and/or benzos if needed almost always are better than antidepressants for anxiety especially intense acute anxiety. Usually cheaper too. Always taper off all psychoactive drugs (with your doctor’s knowledge) instead of going cold turkey if it is possible. You should be better in a few weeks. Wellbutrin shouldn’t be very hard to quit.
