I have two different conditions called Arachnoiditis and Fibromyalgia. These are the outcome of having four back surgeries. First surgery was a discectomy, that rehurniated, within three days, leading to having a second disectomy, all in about 10 days. A year and a half I went in for my third surgery for a fusion. I was cut across my lower belly and up my spine, to be able to have titanium screws put in. I never felt good and started having worse pain then ever. They found one of the screws broke and needed replacing. So, into a fourth surgery that was very invasive. The screw had fallen further than expected from area. I recieved nerve and muscle damage. And, on with the pysical therapy and so on. Then came the Fibromyalgia. It’s been five years, this month, I had my last surgery, which makes it almost 7 years I have been dealing with this. Which doesn’t count the years I had suffered, before deciding to have the first surgery.

With all the pain, I have been having Restless Leg syndrom for long time. Supposely, from the nerve damage and ?????

However, I have been having these very hard jerks, about a year. They have worsen the past four months and even worse the last three weeks. They have gotten so bad I can hardly send a text message, without having to do it over and over, again. Same with this. I’m fixing to scream. It’s hard to hold stuff or stay focused.

And more than not, I fall to sleep right before or at the moment I jerk. Most times, my sleep is sound enough, I have dreams and/or wake up talking out loud. I can remember them, most of the time, and are ok and not real bed dreams. It’s like when you pass out and can still hear whats going on around you. I wake up talking out loud. I can hear words from/in my dream and can, always, hear myself having a conversation and this is where I seem to jerk and wake up.

In the beginining, they were worse at night, making it hard to fall aleep. The jerks left me with the feeling of falling or a carnival ride and tossed up stomach. The jerks continue when I am sleeping.

My children are very concerned. They said it is unreal what I do in my sleep. They said my arms thrash and, at times, my body about comes off the bed. I’m thinking, "did I EVER sleep"!!

It is worse when I am tired. I’m trying to sleep, then the jerks begin.

I get up no less than 4 times nightly. Usually, I will go sit and TRY to read. Before long, the book will drop or take a trip, in the air, from the jerk.

My whole body jerks, at the same time, or may be a hip down to my legs or up to my arms or legs all the way up. It’s crazy and driving me crazy. I’m exhausted from the lack of rested sleep.

I experience relentless chronic pain, with everything, for over 7 years. I take a handfull of medication daily. I haven’t started anything new and have read for side effect, but nothing mathes. In fact, I have read tons of info on other types jerking. But, nothing comes close to describing how I feel. Except once, I read somthing about Night Terrors. There have been times I’ve felt some of the same feelings. I see a bright light, either in my head or right after I’ve opened my eyes, for a second, and heard this loud boom. It feels painful, but it doesn’t last, or I end up with a slight headache.

At times, after real bad jerks, I feel a moment of confusion and short time of tingling or shock feeling. My fingers may stay numb a bit.

There is so much going on and have gotten so much worse and more often. Happens nightly and is getting more frequent while I’m awake. There is NEVER a time I can dose off without having jerks.

When I can’t sleep I sit on my toilet. Putting my feet on a short stool, so I can lean forward to help keep pressure off my back. At least, for a time, I can be somewhat comfortable to read. So many times, I’ve gone so sound to sleep I’ve fallen off or just about. Some of them have the bright light and boom, then jerk and wake up. Or I’m talking out loud into thin air.

I’m exhausted and do not know what to do. I have tried taking to my doctor. He says it’s the nerve damage and partly from the fibro. But, I have never had the time to go into this much explanation.

It may not be a big deal, except, now, I dread going to sleep. Part of me is tired of dealing with it and part feels fearful. I don’t know why. I’m not crazy, yet. But, have felt scared or like someone’s watching me or has been there, before I awake. Ok, I know that ’s wierd, so PLEASE, don’t give up on me!!!

I have to stop now. I wish I would have timed myself to show how long it took me to type this or how many times I’ve dosed off.

PLEASE

I will be glad to hear any answers, questions or opinions that are RESPECTFUL and on the subject. I will try to answer any questions with all I know and truthfully to help figure out what is going on. So, please ask!!!

Have your read about Myoclonus. Myoclonus may develop in response to infection, head or spinal cord injury, stroke, brain tumors, kidney or liver failure, lipid storage disease, chemical or drug poisoning, or other disorders.

    The symptoms sound like yours.

In the future keep your questions brief. I would have answered your question but because it was so long I just typed this for you.

Hi country mom………this is that mean ole chop…….hey you just write these as long as you like…….we need to learn to be good listeners and writers(all of us) Sounds like we need to help you seek out the advice of many counselors, good ones at that. I had my chest split open and a few new carburetor lines installed a few years back and they put four tritium wires in my chest in the shape of a bow tie,,,I’m damn good looking on an x ray………I wouldn’t say much in real life tho. Anyway I have to say that I really don’t believe my body likes that tritium wire……..because I got like pimples all over my chest. So what I’m saying is what does that doctor of yours think of the metal screws in your backbone? Any side effects from being a junk yard dog. Let me guess, he doesn’t know. Did you get your deck and hot tub that you were bragging about every day.? I hope so. Looks like you have a couple of good anwsers……..so, I will leave it at that for tonight………..I wasn’t trained to speak in cases like yours….some would say that they’re prayers are with you…….that sounds good………others might say my deepest sympathys…..that sounds good also………but what do i say to you………may God give you his peace. Pax Domini means may the peace of the Lord be with you alway. Nite……..lady…………chop awayyyyyyyyyyyy

I like to call this MedicalMalpracticeitis-doctors who don’t try to find out teh real cause-they wantto take some blood, do an zray and send you merrily on your way–they claim they can’t afford to spend time on patients, but can afford tehir BMWs and million dollar homes and sumemr homes and boats…..

You probably don’t have fibro-the paon is probably form your otehr conditions—most docs use teh term fibro as a general term for pain-even when it is due to something else.

Hi Country Mom, I know what you’re going through. "Sleep Jerks" are quite common in people who have sleep apnea or some other sleep deprivation problem. They’re actually caused by your body fighting going to sleep. The jerks may not wake you up but disturb your sleep thus creating a vicious circle. Pain from your back problems could easily rob you af a good night’s sleep as well. Jerks at night will make you tired during the day and the jerks can follow.

I’d recommend seeing a neurologist who deals with sleep disorders. He/she may also be able to help with the fibromyalgia or other nerve related pain

    Good luck fixing it !
