Making Use Of Light Therapy for Depression

Posted: October 22nd, 2009 | Author: admin | Filed under: light therapy for depression | Tags: | No Comments »

One of the few disorders that can be treated successfully is Depression, and it responds very well too. But to find out which kind of treatment works best is not easy, in particular one that is new to the market such as light therapy for depression. But there are scores of medical conditions similar to depression, and medications can result in signs of depression–fatigue, sadness or loss of pleasure. And for a fact depression will not go away until the actual problem is not only identified but treated properly.

Traditional methods for treating depression comprise psychotherapy, electroconvulsive or ECT therapy, and antidepressant drugs. The medical field acknowledges that treatments for depression can vary, depending on its severity and its origin. Both holistic practitioners and conventional medical physicians agree that for exceptionally serious depressions, light therapy for depression should be considered as a complementary treatment as compared to the traditional methods.

These complementary conditions considered tolerable for light therapy for depression would be seasonal depression or seasonal affective disorders, not major or chronic depressions such as manic depression or manor depressive disorders. But there are quite a few other conditions, including the light therapy for depression of SAD, that recognize light therapy as an excellent treatment–early morning insomnia, productivity enhancement, night-owl insomnia, jet lag, late-shift drowsiness, bulimia, lupus, non-seasonal depression, or even protracted menstrual cycles.

A lot of the early research on light therapy for depression has been improperly funded, which has led to its lack of research at the very beginning. Also the studies had lots of blemishes in its design problems, which caused them qualitatively weak.

But research in Canada has completed one of the most current studies that says light therapy for depression is just as efficient a treatment as medications, and is known to be the safest treatment for bipolar depression. And not only is it useful, it is cheaper than conventional medication and treatments, in addition to being much safer with fewer side effects. Almost all of antidepressant treatments, except lithium, have the capability to make the condition of bipolar disorder much worse than without them, forcing an increase of subtle “manic side” signs.

When applying light therapy for depression treatments for winter depression or season affective disorder, light therapy initially started out with early morning treatments. But recent results have established how light therapy treats depression is still unknown, and are very much un-established in its prognosis. Recent studies have made known that research in light therapy may crop up in the evenings or other times with just as good outcomes.

Therapeutic Cure With Laser Light Therapy

Posted: October 22nd, 2009 | Author: admin | Filed under: laser light therapy | Tags: | No Comments »

One of the safest and painless treatments available today is Laser light therapy and is used more and more to encourage healing, while at the same time offering a safe pain relief for a wide variety of conditions. Scores of medical professionals are adding this most recent alternative treatment–therapeutic laser light therapy – in variable developments of visible red light, magnetic field, infrared, and super pulsed laser. In the course of action, photons are delivered to certain targeted areas of the body for many reasons so as to alleviate pain and swelling. The laser light therapy is provided by a lower-power laser or LED, known as light emitting diode.

One of the first actual commercial lower-power lasers that were suitable for treating human pain was available in the late 1970s.  Since then, it has been extensively used and acknowledged in Europe by the medical field. Upon receiving FDA approval in 2001, it became tremendously popular in the United States. During that period, the FDA had cleared laser light therapy for speed healing and momentary respite from muscle and joint pain, arthritis, increased circulation and muscle stiffness.

For treating conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, a low level of laser light therapy has shown amazing improvement in over 60% of patients. Light treatments of such medical conditions at specific wavelengths and at low intensity, has been very positive.

With countless of medical professionals growing their medical field with alternative health products for instance laser light therapy, more and more patients are seeking out those who know how to be relevant to this latest technology to assist them in their searches. Many advantages entail short treatment time, ability to handle certain conditions, less side effects, and more conditions that can be treated than was thought possible from fibromyalgia, ligament sprains, muscle strains, arthritis, and other known disorders.

The main benefit of laser light therapy is that it can be used in conjunction with other therapy forms. Some of these comprise physical therapy, chiropractic adjustments, massages, soft tissue mobilization, electrotherapy, and immediately after a surgery. Alternately, there are many other healing modalities that are thought to be as complementary forms that can be employed with laser light therapy, so as to greatly increase the treatments effectiveness.

The Treatment of Pain and Better Circulation Through Infrared Light Therapy

Posted: October 22nd, 2009 | Author: admin | Filed under: infrared light therapy | Tags: | No Comments »

In the medical profession, Infrared light therapy has been around for close to 20 years in the use of pain reduction and improves circulation in the body. In essence, infrared light treatments are used as a heat modality for many areas of physical therapy, now considered a medical stipulation. An ancient practice, the increased recognition of it today has brought about plenty of new changes in the use of light emitting diodes, or LEDs, also known as Monochromatic Infrared Energy.

The benefit of the traditional medical field and their increased acceptance of infrared light therapy is that research began to build up it in regard to its positive aspects, and life saving qualities, whereas needless surgeries and dangerous medication had been used in the past. A recent system of infrared light therapy uses a new mixture of infrared light energy

  • Non visible forms and
  • Visible known as the Healthlight System.

The Visible Infrared Light is a system that is acknowledged as being able to reach about eight to 10 mm into the human skin surface, useful for many types of surface wounds, cuts, scars, triggers, acupuncture points and treating infections.  Alternatively, the Invisible Infrared Light can reach a depth of about 30 to 40 mm, an area that entails bones, deep muscles, and joints. What all of this refers to is that both the red and the infrared wavelengths have the capacity to reach different depths nevertheless have similar therapeutic effects in the healing process.

Credit should be given where credit is due, infrared light therapy is an olden form of light therapy that originated when sunlight shining on bare skin was filtered through red stained glass. From then on, records show us that more is known about infrared light therapy than any other treatment in history and red will stimulate the system as it is a base chakra color, the “fight or flight” spot.

The Healthlight system comprises the infrared light therapy and the visible light diodes, which generates a warm feeling on its pads. Also, an increase in circulation takes place or a reduce in swellings, decreased inflammations, diminished tension, or reductions in muscle spasms or even tightness. Yet at the same time, undesirable side effects of using the infrared light therapy through Healthlight are almost negligible, because of the built-in timers and auto shut-off attributes. Minor situation that may occur are a burning to an area if the infrared systems are left for extended period if they do not have a timer or shut-off, and diabetic individuals should have their insulin levels checked during the infrared light therapy procedures.

Medicare does not cover or endorse the code for the Infrared Heating Pad for home treatments, but most other insurance companies do accept the procedure. Also, no prescriptions are required for the Healthlight infrared light therapy system for personal acquisitions, or through a facility treatment. But through clinics that propose the infrared light therapy, a prescription is necessary if it needs to be reimbursed through the client’s health plan for private insurance.

The effectiveness of Bright Light Therapy has been proven by more than 15 medical agencies doing research in patients, with significant improvement in about a week or thereabout. Bright Light Therapy has shown the medical fields that therapeutic levels of illumination have an effect on human physiologically.

In accordance to blood tests the hormone melatonin, known to be remarkably high at certain times of the day, are speedily reduced by levels of light introduction. This has demonstrated that Bright Light Therapy has on the daily rhythms of body temperature, sleep patterns, and hormone secretion. To summarize, it refers to a treatment employed for individuals who suffer from circadian rhythm sleep disorders, with a normal circadian indicating a cycle of approximately 24 hours which makes one feel sleepy or attentive at daily regular times. A circadian rhythm sleep disorder causes this natural sleep pattern to go beyond a person’s regular awake activities, whether it is school or work.

Where all of this comes about is because scientifically, the body’s clock that is found in the body’s brain is a junction where the nerves travel to the eyes known as the SCN. It is this clock that manages the “circadian rhythms” of the body, in turn controlling the rhythms of the body.

Bright Light Therapy helps the body’s rhythms by setting the internal clock through its exposure to bright light, akin to sunlight. The aim of combination therapy comprises a healthy sleep pattern and an internal clock that works at the right juncture. The rationale behind the Bright Light Therapy is to reset the body’s clock that is not working properly, but is considered only a portion of the treatment plan. The other portion of the treatment plan is to consult a doctor who knows what he or she is doing and specializes in sleep disorders. At this time, there are four essential groups of products for light therapy: The Light Box, The Desk Lamp, The Light Visor and The Dawn Simulator.

Other disorder that Bright Light Therapy is effective for is the depressive segment of bipolar. Women with bipolar disorder were observed by researchers at the University Of Pittsburgh School Of Medicine’s Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic. Previously the women had used Bright Light Therapy treatments in the morning or at midday on a daily basis for 15 minutes, 30 minutes, and 45 minutes for a period of two weeks. Six of the women had considerable improvement, with several recovering 100% from the symptoms of the bipolar depression. The ones with the highest rates of success were in the midday light range, with a few responding very well to the early morning light phase.
